4. What information do I need to give to my agent or company?
Your agent will ask you what make and model cars you own, roughly how many miles you drive each year, and what kind of liability coverage you will need. The agent will also want to know how many people drive the cars, how old the drivers are, where you live, and driving records of each household member. The agent will then ask more detailed questions about your cars, such as their Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN), whether they have passive restraint systems or air bags, anti-lock brakes or anti-theft devices. If you already have another insurance policy with the company for home or life insurance, you might receive a discount on your auto policy. You should also mention if you or other drivers in your household have completed safe-driving courses and if student drivers in your home are getting good grades—both of these may qualify you for discounts on your auto policy. Once the agent has assembled all of the information, he or she will quote you a premium. The premium will depend on all the factors above and on the deductibles you choose.
5. What is homeowners insurance?
Homeowners insurance provides financial protection against disasters. A standard policy insures the home itself and the things you keep in it.
Homeowners insurance is a package policy. This means that it covers both damage to your property and your liability or legal responsibility for any injuries and property damage you or members of your family cause to other people. This includes damage caused by household pets.
Damage caused by most disasters is covered but there are exceptions. The most significant are damage caused by floods, earthquakes and poor maintenance. You must buy two separate policies for flood and earthquake coverage. Maintenance-related problems are the homeowners' responsibility.
6. What is Umbrella or Excess Liability Insurance?
Umbrella or excess liability policies provide extra coverage. They start to pay after you have used up the liability insurance in your underlying home (or auto) policy. An umbrella policy is not part of your homeowners policy. You have to purchase it separately. In addition to providing a higher dollar amount, they offer broader coverage. You are covered for libel, slander, and invasion of privacy. These things are not covered under standard homeowners or auto policies.
7. Why should I buy life insurance?
Replace Income for dependents
Pay funeral expenses
Create an Inheritance for your heirs
Make significant Charitable contributions
Create a source a savings
Pay your Mortgage
Protect your children’s future
8. Why use an Independent Agent to purchase insurance?
Unlike captive agents that sell insurance for one company we can do your shopping for you. We will quote your information through several companies until we find the best fit for your individual needs. Thus giving us the capability to save you money and give you more options as to what you want from your insurance company. Another advantage to using an independent agent that you can do business with someone locally in town, a real person, rather than someone on the other side of the country over the internet or telephone. We will be there to assist you through the claims process in the event something happens. Buying insurance is a necessity in most circumstances and trusting someone you can talk to you in person can be more comforting than a 1-800- number.
Please feel free to give us a call or send an email if you have any questions. We would be glad to help you.
